John Uebersax for US Congress 2010
California's 22nd District

This page is not the main index to my website, which has little to do with politics per se. Please click here for actual home page and site index.

Note. This this is an old (2010) webpage, kept online partly for archival purposes. Background: that year, the incumbent, Kevin McCarthy (then also House Republican Whip) ran completely unopposed -- with no other name on the ballot. In a possible quid pro quo, the Democratic Party didn't even nominate a candidate. As this seemed to me an abuse of democracy, I felt it necessary to supply at least nominal competition and debate of the issues.

Stop the Wars!
Reform Government!
"They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and study war no more." Isa 2:4

Make America Like it Used to Be!

Results: Certified results of the election will be released on December 10. It appears from the preliminary counts that I received about 2100 votes -- an exceptionally good outcome for a write-in candidate and more than the twice the target of 1000! Thank you very much to everyone who cared enough about our country to vote for peace.

I am a certified write-in candidate for U.S. Congress in California's 22nd District, challenging the otherwise unopposed incumbent Republican Kevin McCarthy. As a certified write-in candidate, any vote for me will be officially counted and I am legally entitled to win the election.

I am an independent, nonpartisan candidate. The main planks of my platform are peace (end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and U.S. militarism generally) and government reform (get the corporations and Big Money out of politics, decentralize government, affirm states rights, and give power back to citizens).

I emphatically reject the false dichotomies of Democrat vs. Republican and Liberal vs. Conservative. These divisions have been used to control the American public through fear and mistrust. It's high time we looked upon all Americans of good will as friends and fellow citizens. Common sense alone says that we cannot succeed as long as half the population is fighting the other half.

To Republicans: because the Republican incumbent, Kevin McCarthy, is running unopposed, a vote for me will not cause a Democrat candidate to be elected. You are free, therefore, to vote your conscience and to deliver a wake-up call to the Republican leadership.

To Democrats, if you want to vote against the Republican incumbent, and especially if you want to vote against continuation of the wars, vote for me.

To vote for me, just fill in your ballot as shown below:
